ENG v PAK 2021: Haris Sohail ruled out of England tour due to grade three hamstring tear

Sohail went for MRI scans on Wednesday that revealed a grade three tear injury.

Haris Sohail | GettyPakistan middle-order batsman Haris Sohail who went for MRI scans on Wednesday has now been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. The MRI scans revealed that Sohail has a grade three tear injury, which he had picked up during a training session in Derby last week.

Even though the left-hand batsman was hoping to contribute to Pakistan in the upcoming three-match ODI series followed by a three-match T20I series in order to cement his place in the national team.

I was keenly looking forward to the ODIs as part of my objective to contribute to the side's success and also cement my position in the side. In this background, I am disappointed that my tour has been cut short, but I will return to Lahore and undergo a rehabilitation program so that I can fully recover for the 2021-22 season,” the 32-year-old said.

The ODI series between Pakistan and hosts England is scheduled to begin from 8 July at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The second and third ODIs of this series will be played at Lord’s on 10 July in front of a capacity crowd and Edgbaston on 13 July with an 80% capacity crowd respectively.

Sohail, who was selected for the ODI series only, will return to Pakistan and undergo the rehabilitation programme at the National High-Performance Centre in Lahore.

The PCB medical panel has advised the left-handed middle-order batsman to undergo a four-week rehabilitation program before a reassessment is carried out.
