Legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar passed away at the age of 98 at a hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday (July 7) after a prolonged illness.
For the unversed, the “tragedy king” of Bollywood was born on December 11, 1922 in the Qissa Khawani Bazaar area of Peshawar, British India (now Pakistan).
Born Mohammad Yusuf Khan, Dilip Kumar did his first film “Jwar Bhata” in 1944 and his last movie was “Qila” in 1998. His five-decade long career included a number of iconic films such as ”Mughal-e-Azam”, ”Devdas”, ”Naya Daur”, and ”Ram Aur Shyam” among others.

In 1991, Dilip Kumar was bestowed with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award for his contributions to Indian cinema. Three years later, he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
In 1998, the Government of Pakistan conferred Dilip Kumar with its highest civilian award – the Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
After the news of his demise, Pakistan cricket fraternity took to Twitter and mourned the loss of one of India’s greatest actors.
