Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has urged the fans and pundits to stop the captaincy debate between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan as he believes it is not healthy with the team currently being on tour.

Rizwan’s name as a contender for the captaincy of the Pakistan team came after his consistent performance in all three-formats along with the wicket-keeper batsman leading Multan Sultans to their maiden PSL title recently.

Since current skipper Babar Azam has not been disappointing in any format by any means, Butt felt the debate should end.

It’s a good thing that your captain and vice-captain both are performing well. If you talk about captaincy one has a slight edge over the other. His body language is more like a captain’s but I won’t take his name now, Salman Butt said in his latest YouTube video.

"I have never been desperate for captaincy," says Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan

But it’s not healthy to talk about captaincy repeatedly when your team is on a tour. If one match’s result doesn’t go your way then some players or experts start talking about captaincy is not good for the team,” he added.

According to the left-hand batsman, as both Babar and Rizwan will be playing the upcoming T20 World Cup, they shouldn’t be thinking about captaincy as it disturbs the harmony of the team.

The T20 World Cup is just around the corner. These two are certain to play, they are Pakistan’s main players. These two players shouldn’t have the thinking that ‘I want to become the captain’ because it disturbs the harmony of a team. So I will urge all the experts to keep this in mind,” the 36-year-old said.

Pakistan team that is currently in England for the upcoming white-ball series slated to begin from July 8.
