Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman and Test vice-captain Mohammad Rizwan has insisted that he has never been desperate for captaincy and doesn’t even think about the leadership, saying his job is just to focus as a player.

Rizwan has been one of Pakistan’s consistent performers lately across all three formats of the game and with terrific batting performances, has replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed in the team and is even seen as a potential future captain.

Speaking to the media via a virtual press conference, Rizwan said: “I don't think about captaincy, because my job is to focus as a player. I have never been desperate for captaincy.”

Babar Azam is currently leading the Pakistan team across the formats with Rizwan being his deputy in Test cricket. Rizwan hailed Babar as one of the leading captains in the world at the moment and said he is happy to help him whenever his skipper needs him in the longest format of the game.

He added, “I'm the vice-captain, and whenever the captain needs help, I am happy to do it. Babar is one of the leading captains right now, and if you look at our past series, he's made some brilliant decisions. Even if three or four players put our heads together, his clarity of thought rose above it all.”

Rizwan signed off by saying, “I don't feel the pressure this way, and I enjoy my importance to the team. I relish the fact I am considered one of the main players of the team.”

Noteworthy, Pakistan is all set to be seen in action soon in the three-match ODI series and as many T20Is starting on July 8 in England.
