Former India captain MS Dhoni had quit international cricket last year in August, after not featuring in the Indian side since the 2019 World Cup exit. However, Dhoni still plays Indian Premier League (IPL) and leads Chennai Super Kings.

Ex-India selector Sarandeep Singh talked about Dhoni's retirement and no farewell match for arguably India's best limited-overs captain. In an exclusive conversation with News Nation, Sarandeep said Dhoni was eyeing the ICC T20 World Cup 2020, but the tournament got postponed due to COVID-19.

"Dhoni could not get a farewell due to the postponement of the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia last year. Dhoni retired as soon as this tournament was postponed due to Coronavirus. 

"Had the World Cup been played last year, Dhoni would have definitely played in it and his farewell match would have happened," he said. 

Along with Dhoni, Suresh Raina had also announced his retirement from international cricket. Both the cricketers were in CSK camp when they announced their retirement.

The 39-year-old has played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is for India before retirement. He led India in 200 ODI matches, and his last ODI match as captain was during the 2018 Asia Cup against Afghanistan.
