Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to bid for three major ICC events between 2024-2031

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced on Tuesday (June 22) that they will bid for three International Cricket Council (ICC) events in the next global tournament cycle beginning in 2024.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) stated that the board will submit the bids for the three major global events, including the ICC T20 World Cup, ODI Cricket World Cup, and the Champions Trophy for the next tournament period of 2024 to 2031.

Apart from aiming to bid for three major ICC events, the SLC is also hoping to make a joint bid with any other ICC member country for hosting the event to be held during the period of 2024 to 2031. 

The statement reads: “Sri Lanka Cricket decided to bid for 03 Major ICC Men's events to be held during the period of 2024 to 2031. Accordingly, bids will be submitted for the ICC T20 World Cup, Men's Cricket World Cup, and the Champions Trophy.”

The statement further reads: “Sri Lanka Cricket, in certain events, will make a 'joint bid' in collaboration with an ICC Member country or countries.”

Meanwhile, the ICC approved eight global events in a recent meeting and after that, the SLC has decided to bid for three global events in the next tournament cycle of 2024.

The ICC said of the bidding process in a recent statement, “The ICC Board approved the process for determining the hosts for all Men's, Women's and U19 events in the next cycle. The hosts for the Men's events will be decided in September following a selection process that will get underway this month.”

Noteworthy, the next ICC tournament cycle of 2024-31 includes two ODI World Cups (2027, 2031), four T20 World Cups (2024, 2026, 2028, and 2030), and two Champions Trophy tournaments (2025 and 2029).
