West Indies legendary batsman Brian Lara congratulated Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who was recently inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, class of 2021. Sangakkara had received his Hall of Fame special cap from India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar.
Lara congratulated the Sri Lankan by saying that he prevailed in all conditions against all sorts of bowling attacks.
“Congratulations to you Kumar Sangakkara on being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Sangakkara, unlike many batsmen, prevailed in all conditions, against all bowling attacks around the world. And most importantly, he did it in their backyard, not just his,” Lara said while talking on Start Sports Select Dugout.
Lara then talked about the most amazing feat of Sangakkara according to him which was the four consecutive centuries in the ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.
“Kumar Sangakkara on many occasions has amazed me, but the one that stands out the most was his four consecutive centuries in the 2015 ICC World Cup in Australia. That was something to behold. Just out of the world,” the left-hand batsman said.

Sangakkara played 134 Tests for Sri Lanka and scored 12,400 runs at 57.40. He also took 182 catches and registered 20 stumpings. He was grace personified at the crease and ended his career as the highest run-scorer from Sri Lanka.
In 2014 he struck 319 and 105 in the same Test match against Bangladesh, becoming only the second batsman to achieve this feat after Graham Gooch of England.
The former Australia pacer Brett Lee also congratulated Sangakkara and went on to add that he could not wait to catch up with his former Punjab Kings teammate.
“I want to say a big congratulations to Kumar Sangakkara for being inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame. What a legend of a guy geez, we had our battles in the field, but a terrific guy on and off the field. Played with absolute heart and passion.”
“We were also teammates, playing for the Kings XI Punjab in the first IPL, back in 2008. A terrific guy. Congratulations, Mate! I'm looking forward to celebrating and catch up next,” Lee said.
