BCCI pledges Rs 10 crs to IOA for Tokyo Olympics and decides on payments to domestic cricketers

BCCI pledged INR 10 crs to IOA for Tokyo OlympicsThe 8th Apex Council Meeting (Emergent Meeting) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took place on June 20, 2021. This meeting saw a couple of important decisions being taken regarding a few issues.

The first issue was the support to the Indian contingent for Tokyo Olympics, which will be held from 23 July to 8th August 2021. The BCCI statement read that it has decided to support Indian athletes in every form and manner it can.

Therefore, based on the request received from the IOA/MYAS, the Apex Council of BCCI decided to extend support to the Indian Olympic Association and pledged an amount of Rs. 10 crores.

"The BCCI wishes all the athletes representing India in the Olympics all the very best and hopes that they return with more medals than ever before," the statement read.

The second big decision came with regards to compensation to domestic cricketers and the BCCI agreed to form a committee for the same.

The Apex Council decided to form a committee to look into the issue of compensation for Indian domestic cricketers for domestic season 2020 and 2021. It further instructed the office bearers of BCCI to form the committee and find an appropriate compensatory mechanism for domestic cricketers, at the earliest possible.
