West Indies suffered a humiliating loss against South Africa in the first of the two-match Test series in St Lucia. The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side was at the receiving end of innings and 63 runs defeat.

Despite the defeat, one of the positives for the West Indies was young fast bowler Jayden Seales. The 19-year-old pacer returned with the figures of 3-75, having played only one first-class match before making his Test debut.

West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite lauded young Jayden Seales, saying that he does different things with the ball and has a bright future ahead of him. He pointed out that his pace was up to the mark and he’s something special.

”Not all bowlers have that natural length and he obviously swings the ball. So I was not surprised by his performance in this game. Even at practice, there are different little things that he does with the ball.

“He’s one for the future, big time. Obviously, he’s young, but he was strong, his pace was up throughout and I really think he’s something special,” Kraigg Brathwaite said.

Kraigg Brathwaite further said that despite right shin by Roston Chase in the second innings, they need to improve their batting. He added that they’ll try to come back stronger in the next match.

”We’ve got to bat better. (Roston) Chase showed a fight (making 62 in the second innings), but that first inning hampered us a lot. We’ll take a little break and come back stronger. For me, it’s about getting your mind in the right place. It’s more mental than technical,” he said.

The second Test match between West Indies and South Africa will kick start on 18th June at Beausejour Stadium.
