Former West Indies skipper Jason Holder admitted that being relieved of captaincy duties has been a strange experience for him.

Jason Holder was removed from Test captaincy by Cricket West Indies earlier this year. The all-rounder was replaced by Kraigg Braithwaite, who was temporarily made Test skipper after Holder and a few others opted out of the Bangladesh tour in February.

However during the home series against Sri Lanka, it was expected that Jason Holder would be retained as skipper but management decided to stick with Kraigg Brathwaite, who led West Indies to a 2-0 victory in Bangladesh.

"Jason Holder still an integral part of West Indies," says CWI chief selector Roger Harper

Talking to ESPNCricinfo ahead of the West Indies first Test match against South Africa, former West Indies skipper Jason Holder revealed that it was difficult for him after he was removed from the captaincy

"Yeah, it is been difficult. I probably may not show it, but it has been difficult. For the last five-six years, I have been captaining West Indies, whether that be Test-match cricket or one-day cricket. So now being relieved of both captaincies, it has been a strange transition for me personally," Jason Holder told ESPNCricinfo.

Jason Holder admitted that he was in shock when he was relieved from the West Indies Test captaincy and said that he now wants to focus more on his game.

"It was kind of a shock. Yeah, still lost for words in regards to that, but I am not dwelling on it. I don't think it's something I should dwell on, to be fair. I am just trying to find ways to move on and transition back to just being a regular player.

“For me now, it's about showing a bit more of my character and being a lot more, I would say outspoken. I am relatively outspoken, but just expressing myself a little bit more and having fun,” he said.

Jason Holder will next be seen in action when West Indies take on South Africa in two-Test series at home beginning Thursday (10th June). The No.1 Test all-rounder captained West Indies in 37 Tests since taking over in 2015 with 11 wins, five draws, and 21 defeats.
