Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday (June 9) announced that the second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL 2021) will kick start from July 30 with the final to be played on August 22.
The 2nd edition of the LPL T20 2021 will be held in a bio-secure environment with the Health protocols for the tournament will be planned based on the directions of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health.
The first edition of LPL 2020 was also held under a successful bio-bubble environment at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota, with five teams participating in Sri Lanka's topmost domestic T20 league that won by Thisara Perera-led Jaffna Stallions last year.
The Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement, “SLC wishes to reiterate that the second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be held during July and August 2021, as earlier announced. Accordingly, the tournament will be held from 30th July to 22nd August 2021.”
The SLC added, “The 2020 edition was held under a successful bio-bubble environment. Health protocols for the 2nd edition of the LPL will be planned based on the directions of the Ministry of Health.”
Noteworthy, former India cricketers Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, and Sudeep Tyagi had participated in the first edition of LPL 2021 in Sri Lanka.
Galle Gladiators' Danushka Gunathilaka was the highest run-scorer in the LPL 2020 with 476 runs from 10 matches, while Jaffna Stallions' Wanindu Hasaranga took the most wickets (17) in the T20 event.
