India legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh found himself in a huge controversy after he shared a photo paying tribute to noted Khalistani leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and others killed inside the Golden Temple during Operation Blue Star.

The bowler with over 760 international wickets for India, had shared an image paying tribute to Bhindranwale and others on the 37th anniversary of Operation Bluestar, in which the post started with the caption "Salute to the martyrs".

The text of the image was in Gurmukhi script and read, “Heartfelt tribute to those martyred in Operation inside Shri Harmandir Sahib on June 1- June 6, 1984". 

However, this led to Harbhajan Singh copping a lot of backlash from users on Twitter and other social media sites for calling Bhindranwale a ‘martyr’. He was brutally trolled online for posting the image with people slamming him for paying tribute to the Khalistani leader.

Now after severe uproar and backlash, Harbhajan Singh posted an apology on Twitter and Instagram saying that it was a WhatsApp forward that he posted on social media in haste without reading the content and what it stood for.

He mentioned that he accepted his mistake and said that he didn’t share views with the people pictured on the post. He said that he is a Sikh and an Indian first and termed this as his unconditional apology for hurting the sentiments of the nation. He also added that he will never support anything that is anti-India.
