Ankeet Chavan seeks MCA's help to obtain ban revocation letter from BCCI

Chavan was banned for life by the BCCI for his alleged role in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal.

Ankeet Chavan | BCCI/IPLBanned for life by the BCCI for his alleged role in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal alongside Sreesanth, left-arm spinner Ankeet Chavan has urged the BCCI to issue his ban revocation letter, which would enable him to make a comeback in competitive cricket.

Last year, both Sreesanth and Chavan got a huge relief when the Supreme Court asked the Indian board to shorten their ban period to seven years, the duration of which ended in September 2020.

According to a PTI report, copy of the order regarding Sreesanth had arrived even before his ban ended on September 2020 while Chavan had to wait till May 3 to get his order.

However, Chavan is yet to receive a confirmation letter from the BCCI in order to return to action.

"My ban has been reduced by the Ombudsman last year and the quantum of sentence was seven years which ended in September 2020," Chavan told PTI.

"On May 3, I have got a letter from Ombudsman, which is already marked to the BCCI. This was after a virtual hearing on April 19, when I was called upon by the Ombudsman."

Ankeet Chavan, who used to play for Mumbai, has requested his home state association to pursue the matter with the BCCI.

"I got letter from Ombudsman that my ban has been reduced to seven years. I had written to BCCI president, secretary and CEO for a letter which states that my ban has been reduced.

"The same as what was given to Sreesanth, but his order came before the end of the ban and mine after the completion of ban. Since I didn't get that letter, I had to write to MCA requesting them to write to BCCI for that letter.

"If I have to make myself available, I have to produce a letter from BCCI to prove that my ban has been reduced. Once the letter comes, I can officially start playing again," Chavan said.
