The West Indies have a jam-packed home season currently as they are scheduled to host South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan. With the South Africa series just around the corner, the whole squad is currently training in St Lucia.
Even though the training was interrupted after a player returned a positive RT-PCR test, the whole squad had to isolate and had to start training only after they all returned negative COVID-19 tests that were conducted on Thursday.
“I am happy that we are back to full training. We are happy with the preparations up to this point and everyone is fully aware of what is required,” West Indies head coach Phil Simmons said in an official release.
“Yes, we had four good Test matches (vs Bangladesh and Sri Lanka), but at the same time, people need to know that their position is not guaranteed unless they continue to play well. Guys who are out, need to show that they want to get back in by doing well in these games. So, it is a benefit to every one of us,” he added.
The Proteas will be traveling to the West Indies for a two-match Test series scheduled to begin from 10 June followed by a five-match T20I series slated from 26 June. The South Africa cricket team will arrive on Tuesday, June 1.
