MS Dhoni used to be one of the most stoic and ice-cool cricketers on the field when he used to play for team India. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who played for India from 2004-2019, captained the Indian team in 200 ODIs and is the only captain to win the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy.

However, everyone knew of Dhoni’s quick wit and sharp tongue which he mostly used in press conferences and interviews, but his former India teammate Robin Uthappa, recalled an incident when Dhoni shut down Kevin Pietersen for good one time.

During an interaction with stand-up comedian Sorabh Pant on his YouTube channel ‘Wake Up with Sorabh’, Uthappa was asked by a viewer whether ‘Dhoni endorses sledging’? To this, Uthappa recited an incident.

“I’ll give you an example. MS said to Kevin Pietersen when he sledged him from the commentary box. MS told him ‘listen I’ve gotten your wicket so please keep quiet. So, I think that is proof enough for what he endorses and what he doesn’t. He’s very quick-witted. His wit, if not the same speed of his glovework, it could be faster. MS’ wit is quick,” Uthappa said.

This probably happened during the IPL 2017 when Kevin Pietersen was on commentary and Manoj Tiwary was mic’d up while playing for Rising Pune Supergiants and he told something to Tiwary and asked him to convey to MS Dhoni, who was keeping wickets.

The former England captain said: "Manoj just tell MS that I am a better golfer than him."

Tiwary was seen duly conveying the message to Dhoni after a delivery. "Pietersen kah raha hain woh aapse accha golfer hain (Pietersen is saying he is a better golfer than you)."

Dhoni leaned into Tiwary’s mic and without missing a beat said, “But you are still my only Test wicket!"
