Australia cricketer Marcus Harris talked about India's historic victory at the Gabba earlier this year in January. He said India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant might have played the best innings on the day, but credited Cheteshwar Pujara's fight with the bat for making the win possible.
Harris said Pujara batted "like an Australian", as he kept on fighting despite taking multiple blows on his body. He batted for 211 balls and scored 56 runs as Pant smashed an unbeaten 138-ball 89 runs in India's win.
Speaking on the ‘Cricket Life Stories’ YouTube channel, the Australian opener said: “The final day was amazing to watch. We were thinking the whole day if they would go for the runs or not. I think Rishabh played the best innings that day, but for Pujara to be copping an absolute barrage from everyone, it felt like he batted like an Australian, taking everything on the chest and getting on with it. The rest of the team just batted around him.”
With the win at Brisbane, India secured the series by 2-1 and created history. They won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Australian soil for the second time after winning it in 2018-19.
Harris further said Pant played an outstanding knock and showed the magic he has in him. “Rishabh Pant’s innings was unbelievable. Everyone says he has magic in him, and he has shown that a few times now. It was disappointing to lose the series but sometimes in cricket you just have tip your hat and say they were too good for us.”
