Former Australia batsman, Michael Hussey, who was also the batting coach of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) recently returned home after successfully recovering from COVID-19.

After a bus driver and bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji had already returned positive results, even though Hussey was hoping he wouldn't have contracted the virus, but to his horror, he did.

“I wasn’t thinking about (getting home) too much to start with. I was focusing on just trying to get better again, really. My initial test came up as a weak positive, and we were sort of hoping the next would be negative and it’d be alright,” Hussey told Fox Sports.

“But unfortunately, I got tetested the next day and that came back positive. To be honest, I had already started feeling some of the symptoms and so I was thinking, ‘I’m pretty sure I’ve got it’,” he added.

Even though the former left-hand batsman was unsure as to when he might have contracted the virus but he was quite certain that it might have happened after the Chennai-based franchise left the Mumbai bubble to travel to Delhi for the next leg of the tournament.

“There was a risk there. It (also) could have been at the ground; there was ground staff while we were there training and on game day. There was certainly more risk once we left that Mumbai bubble,” the 45-year-old said.

“I was a bit like, 'Oh gosh, why me', but I didn't really think too much at all. I thought it was a bit of a shame. But I certainly wasn’t worried about my breathing or things like that. It was just a bit annoying, really,” he added.

Due to positive test report, Hussey could not join the Australian contingent which went to Maldives and had to take a flight from Chennai to Doha to Australia after recovering successfully and testing negative.
