Team India pacer Mohammad Shami, who is currently getting ready for the upcoming final of the World Test Championship followed by a five-match Test series against England, said that he wants to impart the knowledge he gained by playing professional cricket to the upcoming younger generation.

“It comes automatically as after being in international cricket for so many years, I would like to share any input that the youngsters may want. I am not going to play forever, so it will be great if I can pass on something to the youngsters,” Shami told Gulf News.

Indian team has had two great series, one against Australia, where they defeated the home team 2-1 followed by 3-1 victory over England in the home Test series. Thus, Shami feels that the team has the capability to succeed in England.

“We have played some extraordinary cricket in recent times as a unit and naturally, the confidence level is high on the eve of our departure for England. If we can reproduce some of the form which we did over the last six months, I am confident it will be a great summer for us,” the right-arm quick said.

Shami who has had a pretty illustrated India career so far then went on to talk about how this COVID-19 pandemic has made him wiser in planning his career.

“See, there is no point in planning too much as certain things are not in our control. Who would have thought that the pandemic would virtually destroy two years of our lives – hence I prefer to take it by each series or tournament as the case may be,” the 30-year-old said.

The fast bowler will be back in action as the team will be taking on New Zealand in the WTC final at Southampton from June 18 followed by a Test series against England scheduled to begin from August 4.
