Legendary Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their idea to resume the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) in June amid the COVID-9 pandemic, saying the focus should be on saving lives from this dreaded virus, not playing cricket.

The PCB is planning to conduct the remainder of the PSL 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and is in talks with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to seek permission from the UAE government to hold the remaining 20 matches in the UAE following the travel ban enforced due to Coronavirus outbreak.

As reported by CricketPakistan.com, Miandad stated: “I think this is not the right time to be playing cricket when all the focus is on saving lives from this dreaded virus.”

In March 2021, the PSL 2021 was suspended after several players and officials tested positive for the COVID-19 and the PCB is yet again risking many lives by trying to resume the PSL 06 from June 1.

Miandad, former Pakistan captain, was not really happy with the PCB’s idea to resume the PSL 06 in a time when people all around the world are crying to save their lives from the deadly COVID-19, suggesting Pakistan should focus more on protecting people rather than thinking about playing cricket.

The batting legend further said, “This is not the time to play cricket, it is the time to save lives. In these times of crisis, we should be more focused on saving lives rather than playing cricket. The whole world has been affected by the Coronavirus. India, where the world cup was supposed to take place, is also severely affected by the epidemic.”

He also slammed the PCB for risking the lives of individuals in this COVID-19 crisis by organizing the remaining PSL 2021 matches so that the board doesn’t suffer on the financial front.

Miandad signed off by saying, “They are risking the lives of several individuals for their own financial gains. If it was in my hands, I would not take the big risk of organizing the remaining PSL matches. If they hold this event and face problems, then who will be responsible?”
