Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq believes that the Pakistan cricket team will soon rise in all three formats of the game. He reckons Pakistan is capable of reaching number first or second position in the ICC team rankings.

Babar Azam-led side managed to win three-match ODI series by 2-1 and four-match T20I series by 3-1 on the recently held South Africa tour.

Even in the ongoing Zimbabwe tour, Pakistan won the T20I series 2-1 and have taken a 1-0 lead in the Test series. They are on the verge of winning the second Test and seal the series 2-0.

During a conversation with PakPassion, Razzaq said, "We only have to look at the likes of South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka, and England who are now in the middle of a similar rebuilding phase as us. We saw how South Africa are faring of late, so thankfully Pakistan is not at that stage and I am very happy that our batting, bowling, and fielding has shown a marked improvement."

Razzaq feels if Pakistan have to reach the top of the ICC rankings in all formats and dominate like Australia for a couple of decades, they will have to upgrade their standard.

“To me, the secret to reaching the first or second position in ICC’s rankings in all formats is to improve in all three facets, in much the same way as Australia was dominating all other teams about 20 years ago. I am hopeful that the way things are going, Pakistan will reach the first or second position in all formats very soon,” he added.

Pakistan are currently at the sixth spot in ODIs, fourth in T20Is, and fifth in Tests.
