England pacer Jofra Archer underwent surgery to remove a glass fragment from his tendon on his right-hand last week after his attempt to clean the fish tank went wrong due to which he suffered a cut on his hand before the India series.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday confirmed that Archer has been given the all-clear by his consultant to continue training as his right hand continues to heal. He will be returning to light training this week, working closely with Sussex and England men’s medical teams.

“It is hoped that he will be able to up his intensity with his bowling from next week. A further update on his elbow injury will be provided once he has returned to bowling to assess the effectiveness of his recent injection,” ECB said in an official statement.

Archer who was supposed to join his IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) for their 2021 campaign (IPL 2021) has been assured that he will not be rushed back to play by the director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara.

While there has been no decision on when the right-arm quick will be returning to play as the official statement from ECB said, “No decision has been made as yet on when Archer is due to return to play.”

The ECB’s medical team managed Archer during the India tour where he played a couple of Test matches and all the T20Is. But was ruled out from the ODI series as well as the first half of the IPL 2021.

With the Rajasthan-based franchise conceding 221 runs in the first match of their IPL 2021 campaign, they will be eagerly waiting for the English pacer to join them in the business end of the tournament.
