India batsman Shreyas Iyer underwent surgery on April 8 for his shoulder injury which he suffered during the first ODI against England in Pune on March 23. He had dived to stop a shot by Jonny Bairstow off pacer Shardul Thakur which resulted in an injury.

Iyer, who was ruled out of the last two ODIs against England and the entire IPL, posted a tweet and shared an update with his fans. He said the surgery was successful and he will return to the field soon.

"Surgery was a success and with lion-hearted determination, I’ll be back in no time. Thank you for your wishes", he tweeted.

The 26-year-old had signed up with Lancashire but now it looks highly unlikely for him to play for the English county side in their one-day tournament starting on July 23.

Iyer will take a minimum of four months before starting playing cricket again. He has been replaced by Rishabh Pant as skipper by the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), starting on April 9.
