Ahead of the IPL 2021, India captain Virat Kohli showed concerns about the mental health of the players citing that they have been in bio-bubbles for a long time and it has been taking a toll on them.
India recently beat England in the three-match ODI series 2-1, ending their long series with England previously winning the Test series by 3-1 and the T20I series by 3-2. After the end of this series, players from both sides will be moving into the bio-bubble of the IPL 2021, as they join the secure environment of their respective franchises.
Virat Kohli spoke about life in bio-bubbles and said that players sometimes get cooked mentally and look for change.
"Scheduling needs to be looked at in the future, because playing in 'bubbles' for so long, two to three months, is going to be very, very difficult going forward. You can't expect everyone to be at the same level of mental strength. Sometimes you do get cooked and you do feel like a bit of a change,” Virat Kohli said.
"I am sure things will be discussed and things will change in the future as well. But a different tournament, it brings fresh challenges heading into the IPL,” he added.
Most international players have been restricted to staying inside bio-secure bubbles since August, with only small breaks, since cricket resumed after a long break in midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
From September until January, India's players went through quarantine and isolation regimes in the delayed 2020 IPL in the UAE and their tour of Australia before having a short break ahead of the home England series at home.
