Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif has made a serious allegation against legendary pacer Waqar Younis.

Speaking on Ary News, Asif said Waqar used to temper the ball for reverse swing.

Waqar, who has 373 wickets in 87 Test matches and 416 wickets in the ODIs, used to be a nightmare for the batsmen with his sharp reverse swing. He has troubled many quality batters with this skill to reverse swing the ball.

Asif said Waqar used to cheat and he didn't know how to ball with the new ball. “He [Waqar] used to cheat with the ball to do reverse swing. He didn’t know how to bowl with the new ball in most of his career. He learned a bit about bowling a new ball in the twilight phase of his career,” he said.

The 38-year-old said Waqar as a coach failed to train a fast bowler with his skill and couldn't add reverse swing in their armory. “You know him as a master of reverse swing but he never developed a single bowler who could bowl a perfect reverse swing. These people are in coaching for the last 20 years but they never produced quality bowlers,” he said.

“They lack consistency in making combinations. We have quantity, not quality bowlers. There is a pool of eight pacers and they are being rotated with no plan. This approach needs to be changed,” Asif concluded.
