Sourav Ganguly congratulates Sunil Gavaskar on his 50th anniversary of India debut

Gavaskar was the highest run-getter (774 runs) in his debut series against West Indies.

BCCI president and former India cricketer Sourav Ganguly congratulated India's great Sunil Gavaskar on the 50th anniversary of his international cricket debut. 

Gavaskar made his Test debut on March 6, 1971, against West Indies in Port of Spain, Trinidad. BCCI also felicitated him during the ongoing fourth Test between India and England at Ahmedabad.

Ganguly took to Twitter and acknowledged his contribution to Indian cricket. "This day marks the 50th Anniv of Mr. Gavaskar in international cricket and the team of 1971," he wrote.

"It is time today to once again congratulate them for what they have for Indian cricket. The game is as strong as it is today because they made a start then against all odds. @BCCI", added the ex-cricketer.

India had won the debut Test series of Gavaskar and it was their first-ever series win against West Indies. The then right-handed opener had scored 774 runs in that series.

Gavaskar, who was a part of the 1983 World Cup win and 1985 World Championship of Cricket victory, played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs for India.
