"IPL gave us that platform to express ourselves" - Ajinkya Rahane responds to Dale Steyn

"IPL gave us that platform to express ourselves" - Ajinkya Rahane responds to Dale Steyn

Rahane will play for Delhi Capitals, while Steyn pulled out of the 14th IPL edition.

Dale Steyn | PSL

Dale Steyn's comments on T20 leagues like Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Lanka Premier League (LPL) being more rewarding as a cricketer than Indian Premier League (IPL) garnered strong reactions from the fans on social media on Tuesday (March 2).

Steyn, while speaking to Cricket Pakistan, said, "I found that playing in these other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player. I think when you go to IPL, there are such big squads and so many big names and so much emphasis on maybe the amount of money players earn and everything like that, so sometimes, somewhere down the line, cricket gets forgotten,"

The 37-year-old fast bowler played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2020, but pulled out of the 2021 edition ahead of the IPL Auction which took place in February. He has been an integral part of the cash-rich league since 2008, playing for various teams.

India's vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked for his thoughts on Steyn's comments when he turned up for a virtual press conference in Ahmedabad. Rahane, who will play for Delhi Capitals next month, said the IPL provides players a platform to express.

ANI quoted him as saying, "See, I am here to talk about the fourth Test match and not here to talk about PSL or Sri Lanka Premier League. IPL gave us that platform to express ourselves and also to a lot of Indians players. I am not sure what Dale Steyn has said, I am here to talk about this Test match."
