NZ v AUS 2021: Crowd might be allowed in Wellington for 5th T20I if alert level status relaxed, says NZC

Final T20I will be played early to allow Australia to catch a charter flight immediately after the game.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Tuesday (March 2) announced that the order of play of the final T20I between New Zealand and Australia, as well as, Women’s T20I against England has been reversed at Wellington's Sky Stadium on Sunday (March 7).

Following the latest development announced by the NZC, New Zealand men's team will take on Australia in the early game while New Zealand Women will lock horns against England Women later in the afternoon in the double-header at Wellington on Sunday.  

The NZC also stated the crowd will be allowed to enter Wellington's Sky Stadium for Sunday's doubleheader if Wellington's Alert Level status relaxed amid the rising COVID-19 cases.

In an official statement, NZC said: “The decision follows discussions between New Zealand Cricket and Cricket Australia and will allow the Australia squad to catch a charter flight home immediately after the game - and avoid having to transit through Auckland.”

The statement further reads: “Should Wellington's Alert Level status be relaxed ahead of Sunday's doubleheader, a crowd will be allowed inside the venue.”

Noteworthy, Auckland has returned to alert Level 3 for seven days – during the period, no sport can be held, while the rest of the country has moved to alert Level 2 and the restrictions will last for a period of seven days following the latest COVID-19 cases in the country.
