Virat Kohli becomes first cricketer in the world to cross 100 million followers on Instagram

Kohli is also the first Indian to achieve this milestone.

The official account of International Cricket Council (ICC) took to Twitter to welcome Kohli into the elite club that also has football stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Kohli is also the first Indian to achieve this milestone. After him, actor Priyanka Chopra is the most popular Indian on Instagram with over 60 million followers.

Besides Instagram, Kohli also has a record fan-following on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. While the Indian captain boasts 40.8 million followers on the micro-blogging site, he has over 36 million likes on Facebook.

Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed personality on Instagram with over 266 million followers. Famous singer Ariana Grande is second on the list with 224 million followers while Dwayne Johnson occupies the third spot with 220 million followers.

Virat Kohli is currently leading Team India in the ongoing Test series against England at home.

The hosts suffered a heavy 227-run defeat in the opening game but bounced back strongly to claim an unassailable 2-1 lead in the four-Test rubber.

Ahmedabad will host the fourth and final Test, starting Thursday (March 4).
