In the meantime, the swashbuckling opener plied his trade in various Twenty20 leagues across the world. He recently featured in two matches for Quetta Gladiator in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).

"Chris Gayle has performed very well in recent tournaments and the selection panel thinks that he can still add great value to our team," chief selector Roger Harper said in a statement.

The 39-year-old Edwards has been picked in the squad for possibly his first match for West Indies in more than eight years.

Antigua's Coolidge Cricket Ground will host the three T20Is from March 3 to March 7. Subsequently, the two teams will face each other in three ODIs and two Tests.

Test skipper Jason Holders has been selected in both the white-ball teams, but all-rounder Andre Russell has been left out as he recovers from catching COVID-19 this month.

Even though Russell has now been tested negative, he will have to complete the board's return-to-play protocols before getting considered for selection.
