Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals’ (DC) CEO Dhiraj Malhotra has replaced Saba Karim as the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) General Manager for Game Development.

On Friday, February 12, a senior BCCI source confirmed to PTI that Mr. Malhotra has been “formally” appointed as the General Manager, Game Development and Operations – the role is responsible to oversee the domestic cricket operations and organizing international matches in India.

The post was earlier held by Karim and it was vacated since he resigned from the post after the Sourav Ganguly-led management assumed power after his three-year stint ended and he was on a six-month notice period, which ended last month.

According to the BCCI website, the GM (Game Development) “will be responsible for determining and monitoring the match playing regulations, standards of venues, including pitches and outfields besides the administration of the Domestic Tours Programme.”

The DC CEO has had more than a two-decade long stint in the cricket industry and also served the senior positions at the International Cricket Council (ICC) and handled the responsibility of overseeing cricket operations of various ICC events in the past before joining the IPL franchise.

A senior BCCI source told PTI on Friday: “Yes, Dhiraj Malhotra has been formally appointed as GM (Game Development). He will be joining from Monday, February 15.”

The source signed off by saying, “Dhiraj’s joining Delhi franchise coincided with two of their best seasons, including play-offs and second-place finish. Also when he was with DC, he was asked to help out at the ICC World Cup in England due to his vast knowledge.”
