Bangladesh cricket team on Tuesday recalled batsman Soumya Sarkar to replace injured all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for the second Test against the West Indies, to be played in Dhaka.

Shakib Al Hasan’s return to international cricket following the one-year ICC ban has been a successful one as the premier all-rounder was adjudged the Player of the Series in the ODIs against West Indies.

However, while coming back to the Test side, Shakib had picked up a thigh strain during the second day of the first Test match between Bangladesh and the West Indies in Chattogram.

Shakib was unable to bat and bowl in the second innings of the match and his absence was felt massively with the ball as Bangladesh was unable to defend the 395-run target.

With Shakib not being available for the last Test, Bangladesh has recalled left-handed batsman Soumya Sarkar as a replacement for the former.

"Soumya Sarkar has been brought in as the replacement for injured allrounder Shakib Al Hasan in the Bangladesh squad for the second Test against the West Indies. The left-hander, who has a hundred and four half-centuries in 15 Tests, will join the squad’s training on Wednesday," Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement.

The second Test match between Bangladesh and West Indies will kick start from 11th February at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
