PM Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ show, congratulated the Indian team for their win in Australia and highlighted the enormity of the series.

India showed tremendous will and skill to overcome what was a humiliating start to the four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India was bowled out for their lowest innings score in Tests-36 in Adelaide and lost by 8 wickets. Then Virat Kohli left for India on parental leave and Ajinkya Rahane was named captain in his absence. He scored a century in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and led India to a series equaling 8-wicket win.

Then India earned a hard-fought draw in Sydney, even as they lost first-choice players at an alarming rate. They had lost Mohammad Shami to a fractured hand after Adelaide and then lost Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Hanuma Vihari, and Jasprit Bumrah at various stages.

This led to Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Shubman Gill, T Natarajan, and Navdeep Saini making their debuts during the Test series and performed amazingly well. Rishabh Pant finally came off age and showed why he is backed so much by the BCCI and Indian team management, as Australia unraveled in their own backyard.

Finally, India beat Australia in Brisbane, a venue where they had not lost a Test since 1988 and had not been bowled out in both innings of a Test for the past 32 years. India also created a record as they chased down 328 runs in the fourth innings to win in Gabba and pocketed series 2-1, winning in Australia for the second consecutive time.

PM Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of the series win in Australia and posted on Twitter.

The BCCI were quick to thank the Prime Minister for his appreciation and tweeted, “Thank you Shri @narendramodi ji for your appreciation and words of encouragement. #TeamIndia will do everything possible to keep the tricolour flying high. @imVkohli @ajinkyarahane88 @RaviShastriOfc @RishabhPant17 @Jaspritbumrah93 @ImRo45 @JayShah @SGanguly99 @ThakurArunS

Also the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly took to Twitter and thanked PM Modi for his gesture.
