Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey has yet again heaped praise on India’s latest batting sensation Shubman Gill for his impressive performance in the recent Test series in Australia.

There were a number of performances from the Indian cricket team against Australia in the four-Test series that grabbed attention across the world whether be it Rishabh Pant's blitzkrieg in Sydney, Mohammed Siraj's fifer in the Gabba, or Shubman’s monumental contribution in India’s historic Test series win 2-1 down under.

Well, but it was Gill whose impressive performance on his maiden Australia Test tour left a huge impact on Hussey.

The 21-year-old had a breakout series in Australia, where he made his Test debut in the Boxing-Day Test in Melbourne, scored 259 runs in 3 games at an average of 51.80 including a couple of half-centuries to draw a lot of praise from several cricket experts across the world.

However, for Hussey, it was Shubman’s knock of 91 against Australia at the Gabba in the fourth and final Test that was the most impressive innings from the youngster on Down Under and even he went on to call him a real player for the future of India Cricket.

Hussey was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times: “There were some wonderful performances from India. I think Gill's innings was superb. He looks like a real player for the future of India. I love the way he goes about it. And of course, Rishabh Pant played one of the most incredible innings I have seen.”

An injury-ravaged India made an incredible turnaround after being bowled out on their lowest-ever score (36) in the Adelaide Test and retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy despite many setbacks and even without their captain Virat Kohli in Australia.

Recalling India’s situation, former Aussie noted: “I was certainly not writing India off at the stage, but I thought it was going to be difficult to come back from that, plus their captain (Virat Kohli) was going home. And of course, Mohammad Shami was injured as well.”

Hussey signed off by saying, “I thought that was going to be a massive loss, but I was really buoyed by Ajinkya Rahane’s comment at the toss at the MCG Test.

He had a very positive attitude, he kept the guys nice and positive. He gave new players the opportunity and I think he got them to focus on the positive things. I think that really worked.”
