Australian selector Trevor Hohns has on Thursday (January 28) hinted that Australia might follow the rotation policy for their pace battery during the upcoming Test tour of South Africa next month.

Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Nathan Lyon played all four Tests against India and were even retained for the three-Test series against South Africa and Hohns said Australia should have been followed the rotation policy against India in the recent home Test series.

However, Hohns insisted that the premier bowlers have been picked for South Africa after they found them completely recovered and fit for the tour, but said Australia team management would have to be more mindful in the future regarding the management of the fast bowlers.

Hohns said: “In hindsight, [we] possibly could have been done. Prior to finalizing any team, we check with medical people and even check with our players sometimes just to find out how they are doing.”

He further added, “Sure, the games were pretty tight and close together, maybe we have to be a little more mindful of that going forward. However, in this instance, all the bowlers had recovered sufficiently for the medicos to give them the thumbs up.”

On the selection of Cummins, Hazlewood, and Starc for South Africa Tests, Hohns said they have been picked because they are best for the job to recover from the home Test series loss to India.

He signed off by saying, “We considered those three fast bowlers, who had performed very well over a long period of time, were the best ones for the job. Once we'd checked to make sure they'd recovered sufficiently we thought it was the best attack.”
