Team India players to undergo mandatory 2 km time trial test in addition to Yo-Yo Test

Earlier, the only fitness criteria to play for India was to pass the Yo-Yo Test.

The much-discussed Yo-Yo Test will now be a part of the complete fitness test that will have to be completed by players to become eligible to play for Team India.

The players will now have to undergo a 2-kilometer time trial to test their endurance, speed, and stamina. This will be in addition to the already existing Yo-Yo Test in place for selection to the national team.

The BCCI now believes that the Indian players need to take their fitness to the next level to fulfill the increasing demands of fitness in international cricket.

A BCCI official told Indian Express, "The Board felt that the current fitness standard played a huge role in getting our fitness to the next level. It is important to take our fitness level to another level now. The time trial exercise will help us to compete even better. The Board will keep updating the standards every year."

The time limit for the 2-kilometer test is different for the fast bowlers from players of all other roles as they need even better stamina to keep their body at its best.

While the rest of the players have to complete the run in 8 minutes 30 seconds, fast bowlers need to do it 8 minutes 15 seconds. However, the benchmark for the Yo-Yo test remains to be 17.1 for all players.

The 2-kilometer test will be mandatory for selection after England's tour to India comes to an end in March 2021.
