Australia batsman Steve Smith thanked his admirers and well-wishers after being named ICC men's Test cricketer of the Decade. Smith, who started international cricket as a spinner, saw a rise in his career as a batsman.
Smith had batted at number 8 and 9 in his debut Test match against Pakistan at Lord's in 2010. He went on smash 26 hundred this decade for Australia, turning out to be one of the best batters of the modern era.
"Humbled to be named Test player of the decade. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career so far. I’ve had a lot of fun, faced many challenges, learnt so much and now I can’t wait to see what the next decade has in store for me," Smith tweeted.
Smith scored his first Test century in the fifth match of the 2013 Ashes series when he added 138 not out. His highest score of 239 came in the Ashes during the 2017–18 series at the WACA Ground, Perth. Australia had won the match by an innings and 41 runs.
