The BCCI general body meeting is expected to meet on Thursday, December 24. The AGM will also see the formation of a Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).
This committee will have the primary responsibility to form a selection committee for choosing players for Team India. The selection committee will be in place soon after and will pick the squads for Team India's series against England in February 2021.
The Madan Lal-headed CAC picked national selectors for only one meeting and now that committee will be dissolved. The CAC also consisted of Sulakshana Naik and Rudra Pratap Singh.
MCA appoints former Indian pacer Salil Ankola as the new Mumbai chief selector
A BCCI source told PTI, "Madan Lal, Rudra Pratap Singh and Sulakshana Naik were appointed for one meeting where Sunil Joshi and Harvinder Singh became selectors."
He stated the reason for that being all the domestic tournaments for the 2020-21 season will be starting after the AGM and thus the CAC will be having bigger roles. The interview process for the national selectors will also be conducted soon by the newly formed advisory committee.
"Since all cricket committees will be formed after the AGM, the new CAC will be formed and then the interview process is expected to start after that," he added.
So far, some prominent names have applied for the post and are in contention according to sources.
Former India cricketers Ajit Agarkar and Abey Kuruvilla have applied from the West Zone, Chetan Sharma and Maninder Singh have applied from the North Zone and Shiv Sunder Das has applied from the East Zone.
