Afghanistan cricket board announces a state of the art cricket stadium in Kabul

Afghanistan is all set to have its own international cricket stadium very soon and the local fans would be able to watch their favorite stars in action at home, as the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the construction of a state of the art cricket stadium in Kabul on Sunday (December 20).

Presently, Afghanistan plays most of their home international matches in India – their adopted home grounds in Dehradun and Greater Noida. Well, Afghanistan now gets a major breakthrough in their quest to bring international cricket matches to the country with ACB announcing Kabul will be home to a standard state of the art international cricket stadium soon.

ACB Chairman Farhan Yusefzai on Sunday confirmed the same while thanking Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani for extending support in the development of cricket in the country by allocating 120,000 sq meters of land in Alokhail area of Kabul for the construction of the stadium.

Mr. Yusefzai stated, “I am happy to announce that Kabul will be home to a standard state of the art international cricket stadium where the fans will be able to watch their favorite cricketers play." 

With the construction of this ground, we will be able to host international cricket and our people will watch international players playing at their ground in the centre of the capital Kabul,” Yusefzai was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

He further added, “I express my special thanks to Mr. President who has always supported the development of cricket and encouraged our players. After initial formalities, the construction of the stadium will also commence and we will ensure it is done with the best quality.”

According to the statement on ACB’s official website, the cricket stadium will be constructed according to international standards and it will have a capacity to host 35,000 spectators.

The stadium will have a five-star guest house, a standard swimming pool, indoor and outdoor academies, canopies for the crowd, health clinic, mosque, car parking, administrative block, and other such facilities apart from designated places for the families at the premises.
