Australia’s white-ball captain Aaron Finch is now fully fit and on Wednesday (December 9) joined his Melbourne Renegades teammates for the ongoing 10th edition of the Big Bash League (NBBL) 2020-21. He suffered a minor glute strain during the second T20I against India.
Finch will be available for the Renegades' first two BBL 10 games this weekend but he could be rested at some stages of the showpiece T20 event in order to spend some time with family. He will captain the Melbourne Renegades in the club’s BBL 10 clash against the Perth Scorchers on Saturday, December 12.
Finch hasn’t visited his home in Melbourne since leaving for Australia's tour of England in August 2020 due to international duty and then headed to UAE for IPL 2020 followed by home series against India.
Confirming Finch’s availability for the Hobart clash, the Renegades head coach Michael Klinger said: “He's definitely going to be playing. He came into Hobart last night and obviously played the last T20 game for Australia and has been passed fit. He'll have his hit out tomorrow with us leading into the game so he's ready to go and he always comes to the Renegades set up with a fantastic attitude.”
Klinger also insisted that the club is very keen to allow its captain to spend some with his family during the BBL 10 since he hasn’t met his family for long and a tiny break will help him to refresh.
He added, “There may be periods where we give him time to go home. We're quite lucky in our first period where we've got two blocks where we've got six-day breaks after our back-to-back games on the 12th and 13th so there may be a period there where we can get Finchy home. There are complications at the moment with Covid and how many days you can be away and then isolating before you get back into the hub here in Hobart or elsewhere. If there's an opportunity to give him some time off then we definitely will because I think it will definitely help him but also help us when comes back refreshed.”
Meanwhile, Finch has also confirmed that he is “100 percent” fit to play in the BBL 2020-21.
The captain further stated: “I had a little niggle with my glute, which was a small strain in there. There was quite a lot of sharp pain when I initially did it. But then the pain went right down. It was still there but it was a dull pain, a standard injury. No issues going into the game tomorrow night.”
Noteworthy, Australian paceman Kane Richardson has also joined the Renegades squad after opting out of the IPL 2020 and home series against India in order to spend time with his wife and new-born son.
