India's wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel announced his retirement from all forms of the game on Wednesday, December 9. The 35-year-old made his First-Class debut way back in 2001/02 and then went on to play close to 600 matches in professional cricket.

Patel had made his Test debut at the age of 17 against a strong English side in Nottingham in 2002. Sourav Ganguly was then the Indian captain and now is the President of the BCCI, when Patel has hung up his boots.

Ganguly has seen the progress of Parthiv Patel as a professional cricketer over the years and believes that he is a 'brilliant ambassador of Indian cricket'.

Ganguly said in a statement issued by BCCI, "Parthiv has been a brilliant ambassador for Indian cricket. He has always been a team man and it was a pleasure to captain him when he made his international debut at the age of seventeen. His hard work has earned him laurels in international and domestic cricket."

Parthiv Patel won the Ranji Trophy with Gujarat as captain in 2016/17 and gave them their only title win. That, according to Ganguly will always be remembered in the history of Gujarat cricket.

"I congratulate him on a fantastic career and wish him the very best for his future endeavors. His performance in the Ranji Trophy final to win Gujarat their only title will always be remembered in the history of Gujarat cricket," he added.
