Former Australia captain Ian Chappell had called switch-hit an illegal shot. He felt ICC should take a call on the shot and ban it completely. But BCCI president Sourav Ganguly doesn't agree with Chappell's words.

Ganguly believes the shot is completely right in the modern era. He added that the shot needs courage and strength to execute it perfectly.  "The game has moved on, so I don't see we can take away this popular stroke from the modern-day batsmen," Ganguly said.

Australia batsman Glenn Maxwell can be seen playing it too often. Chappell's comments had also come after Maxwell's terrific hitting in the ODI series against India. 

"You require a lot of strength to play such a courageous shot. Apart from timing and feet movement, a lot of other things are required to play this stroke," Ganguly added.

The ex-India captain named England's Kevin Pietersen and David Warner after asked about the players who mastered the switch-hit.

"Kevin Pietersen was the first to play this shot. Also, David Warner's name should come here. It's a very good shot if you can hit it nicely."
