England's limited-overs vice-captain, Jos Buttler, believes a great desire to improve collectively in an environment not short of talent and depth will ensure the success enjoyed by the three lions last the test of times. 

Buttler spoke on England's prowess after they completed a 3-0 T20I series whitewash over South Africa on Tuesday (December 1), with the explosive right-hander himself contributing significantly to the nine-wicket victory in Cape Town.

Chasing a massive 192-run target, the visitors reached home comfortably inside 18 overs to once again show off their batting power. Buttler (66) shared an outstanding third-wicket stand with Dawid Malan (99*) after the early loss of Jason Roy (16) as the visitors breezed past South Africa's 191/3. 

This was the third instance of England successfully chasing down a target in excess of 190 in T20Is this year. The win in Newlands also took them to the top of the ICC T20I rankings, a massive confidence booster in the build-up to the next year's World Cup in India. 

"It's fantastic for us to achieve that status," Buttler was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. "Going into the 50-over World Cup, there was a lot of research done that the teams that win it generally come from the top one or two in the world. That is obviously an aim for us to achieve that in the rankings."

"That is a result of us playing good cricket. It is exciting for us to know we are playing well and for us to become the number one. But also to become even better."

"There is no limitation for this side. There is a thirst for continuous improvement and a healthy competition in the team. We have an abundance of fantastic players," he added. 

Being 2-0 up, England were expected to make a few changes and give those warming the benches their chance. However, skipper Eoin Morgan retained the same line-up in hope to continue the winning momentum. 

However, there's a case to be made to test the squad-depth in the future keeping in mind the bigger goal of reclaiming the world champions tag in T20Is. 

"We have got a fantastic squad of 15 guys," Buttler said. "Winning is always really the priority. Having everyone here and available in these conditions, wanting to nail down our strongest team for these exact conditions, I thought that was a great way to go for us."

"I think it is really important to get time together as a side. A lot of us have played a lot of T20 cricket but to play as an eleven for England a year out from the World Cup will stand us in good stead."

"Things can be learned. The role clarity we had as a 50-over side, a pretty settled team which nearly picked itself, was a great place to be. That's what we are trying to build in the T20 side. It was fantastic to have all our players available."

"In T20, guys go off and play in franchise tournaments which is a huge bonus as well. That brings a lot of confidence in the team. Someone like Jofra Archer being the MVP of the biggest tournament in the world [the IPL] gives us a lot of confidence."

Morgan as well was happy with the outcome and the series win, but suggested they are still looking for a perfect team performance. 

"Trying to put an all-round game together [is the aim] for us," he said. "The batting today was outstanding, the bowling was a little bit off. The two games previously were hard, scrappy, well-fought games."

"The second game, the bowlers were outstanding and then everybody chipped in with the bat. The first game, probably only two or three guys stood up. We have progressed nicely as the tour has gone on."

"Hopefully that continues. But as regards performance, looking and striving for that collective performance on any given day is important," Morgan signed off.
