NZ v PAK 2020-21: Pakistan squad suffer latest setback; seventh COVID-19 positive case observed - Report

The tourists have already gotten a "final warning" from New Zealand authorities for protocols breach.

Pakistan are scheduled to face New Zealand in 3 T20Is and 2 Tests | GettyPakistan squad on Saturday (November 28) suffered a latest setback on the tour of New Zealand after media reports emerged of a seventh COVID-19 positive case within the touring camp.

The visitors arrived four days ago but have already received a "final warning" from the New Zealand health authorities for their careless breach of the quarantine regulations in place.

The growing number of positive cases further pile on the threat on the series comprising 3 T20Is and 2 Tests, beginning December 18.

Interestingly, Pakistan's extended touring contingent had all tested negative of Coronavirus when they got together in Lahore. But upon arriving in New Zealand, six of them gave positive results and now another has been observed.

"One additional member of the Pakistan cricket squad has today tested positive," the Ministry of Health in New Zealand said in a statement, confirming a seventh Pakistani victim of the virus.

"The remainder of the results from the squad's day-three swab testing, apart from the six who have already returned a positive result, are negative."

All tourists arriving in New Zealand must quarantine for 14 days as part of the strict protocols designed by the country which has tackled the pandemic inspirationally.

Pakistan's 53-man touring party will go through another test on Monday (November 30). In the meantime, they will remain confined to their hotel rooms in Christchurch after the earlier exemption to train was taken away from them following the protocols breach.

Given the times and the difficult nature of the series, the Pakistanis will rue not obeying the social distancing regulations imposed inside their quarantine hotel facility.
