South Africa all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the upcoming limited-over series against England on Thursday (November 26) due to a hamstring injury.

Ahead of the first T20I against England in Cape Town on Friday, November 27, Cricket South Africa and team Doctor Shuaib Manjra have confirmed Pretorius’ injury and said the all-rounder would require three to four weeks for recovery, making him unavailable for the 6-match white-ball series at home.

He suffered the injury during South Africa team practice and has subsequently been released from the team’s bio-bubble to rejoin the Lions squad where he will continue his recovery.

The board also confirmed that they wouldn’t name a replacement for Pretorius for the three-match T20I series and as many as ODIs against England due to the bio-bubble regulations.

CSA said in an official release, “The injury took place during a team practice session at Six Gun Grill Newlands and is expected to take three to four weeks for recovery.”

Meanwhile, Manjra has confirmed that the two players, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week, will not be available for selection for the opening clash.

However, the officials didn’t reveal the COVID-19 infected players’ names due to doctor-patient confidentiality, but they have the right to personally announce it publically.

On the other hand, the CSA also confirmed that their Proteas squad has cleared the round of testing, as no new member tested positive for COVID-19, while the two virus-contracted cricketers were not part of the third round and will remain in isolation and are being monitored closely.

CSA concluded, “The hosts did their final round of testing this morning (Thursday) with the expectation of receiving results later in the evening - an update will be provided when the results are confirmed.”
