As a captain, Shreyas Iyer impressed one and all in the last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) as he led Delhi Capitals (DC) to the play-offs for the first time in seven years.
This year, Iyer went one step and captained DC to the final of IPL. In fact, it was the first time that the Capitals qualified to the final in the history of the tournament.

No wonder, Iyer’s Delhi teammate and Australian wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey believes that the former has the potential to lead India one day.
“No doubt he’s got the potential to lead India one day. I think Shreyas is going to be a fantastic leader moving forward,” Carey quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
“His ability to connect with all the players in the group was fantastic. He took the focus off himself and worried more about the group. He’s been really successful for the last couple of seasons for Delhi,” he added.
He further praised Iyer’s ability to connect with players.
“He’s still young and learning his crafts. He’s a fantastic batsman and a great person as well. To connect with every player in a big squad like Delhi is quite a tiring task but he was excellent in managing that. His positive attitude towards the game and his partnership with Ricky really worked well for us. The future is very bright for him,” he said.
Shreyas Iyer has also left a mark in his brief international cricket career. He has solved India’s No. 4 conundrum in ODI cricket after the 2019 World Cup in England.
As Team India are gearing up to face Australia in their own den, Iyer would hope it launches another chapter in his life.
