"Should've been playing cricket, but now delivering food," Netherlands' cricketer suffers due to COVID-19

The T20 World Cup in 2020 was scheduled to be hosted by Australia in the last month. However, the emergence of COVID-19 postponed the tournament to 2022, while India will host the 2021 edition of the tournament.

While the players from established Test-playing nations are involved in the big leagues like the IPL or are involved in international tours, players from associate nations do not have that luxury.

Netherlands bowler Paul van Meekeren was supposed to be a part of the national squad for the T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia. The postponement of the tournament led to him choosing an alternate career on non-playing days. He now delivers food via Uber Eats to sustain himself when there is no cricket to be played.

ESPNCricinfo had posted a tweet about the T20 World Cup Final that would have happened on November 15 had the COVID-19 pandemic not been there.

Paul van Meekeren quoted the tweeted and wrote, "Should’ve been playing cricket today now I’m delivering Uber eats to get through the winter months!! Funny how things change hahaha keep smiling people"

Meekeren has played 5 ODIs and 41 T20Is for the Netherlands picking 52 international wickets so far. He last played a professional game of cricket back in November 2019.
