New Zealand's Trent Boult itching to get back onto the cricket field again

Boult will be involved in New Zealand's bilateral series against West Indies starting this month.

New Zealand's left-arm pacer Trent Boult was in brilliant form in the recently-concluded IPL 2020, where he was the Player of the final. He delivered the goods for the victorious Mumbai Indians time and time again. He has now flown back to New Zealand and is in a quarantine facility at Christchurch.

As someone who 'can't sit still', Boult is already itching to get back to practice. He is eyeing the Tests against West Indies that start from December 3 but is happy to be a part of the T20 side if picked.

Boult told reporters over a conference call, "I don’t even know what time we get out. I know that we finish up here the day before it (the T20 series) starts. I’m probably just targeting the Test matches as usual. I’ve got to make sure that I’m ready for them. If I’m involved in the T20s earlier as well then that will be exciting too."

The players from both teams will be tested thrice for COVID-19 before being allowed outside the quarantine centre. The Kiwi players will be allowed to train at New Zealand Cricket’s high-performance center early next week.

Boult believes that even though he played a full season for the Mumbai Indians in the heat of the UAE, he is not yet ready for Test cricket. He needs to work on his fitness, even more, to play in the longest format of the game.

He said, "While the workloads probably aren’t quite there for Test match cricket, I definitely feel better off having tasted some cricket. I just need to progress it as quickly as I can."
