Former Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar had tweeted about making helmets compulsory for batsmen at all levels as the game was getting quicker but not as safer.

In a tweet, before Dhawal Kulkarni got hit in the most unlikely manner against Mumbai Indians' fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tendulkar wrote, "The game has become faster but is it getting safer? Recently we witnessed an incident which could’ve been nasty. Be it a spinner or pacer, wearing a HELMET should be MANDATORY for batsmen at professional levels. Request @icc to take this up on priority".

He tagged Indian coach Ravi Shastri in a reply to the tweet and said, ".@RaviShastriOfc, this also reminded me of the time when you got hit after top-edging a full toss bowled by Mr. Gavaskar during an exhibition game. That could’ve been a grave injury too but thankfully wasn’t!"

Ravi Shastri quoted the tweet and replied saying he agreed with Tendulkar's views on making helmets compulsory at all levels. He also cleared the cheeky dig taken at him by saying that he can now play Gavaskar's full tosses a lot better.

The importance of helmets to batsmen has been a major talking point since the unfortunate demise of Australian cricketer Philip Hughes back in November 2014.
