Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) captain KL Rahul has been conferred with the Ekalavya Award by the Government of Karnataka in the Karnataka Star Sports awards for his outstanding performance in the game of cricket on Sunday (November 1).

Rahul, the Mangalore native, who is currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, took to Twitter on Monday (November 2) to thank the state government for bestowing him with the Ekalavya Award.

The right-hander also credited the contributions of his coaches, teammates, friends, and families to his success in the cricketing career while promising to give his best and make India and Karnataka proud.

He tweeted, “Thank You Government of Karnataka for bestowing me with the Ekalavya Award. It would not be possible without the support of my coaches, teammates, friends, and families. I will continue to work hard to make our state and India proud #grateful.”

Meanwhile, Rahul’s Karnataka and India teammate Mayank Agarwal – both plays together for KXIP, was also honored with the Ekalavya Award given by the government for outstanding performance in sports.

Agarwal also thanked the government for the recognition by saying on Twitter: "I'm grateful to the Government of Karnataka for acknowledging me with Eklavya Award. It has always been a pleasure representing this wonderful state. I owe my sincere gratitude to all the coaches, family and friends who have helped me grow leaps and bounds in life."

Noteworthy, KXIP captain – who is likely to bag the orange cap in the IPL 2020 for scoring 670 runs in 14 matches, is still in the UAE along with Bangalore native Agarwal to travel with the Indian team to Australia.

KXIP has been knocked out from the IPL 13 playoffs following their poor performance in the crucial later stage of the T20 league in the UAE. They made their exit after being defeated by CSK in their last league game on 1 November and finished the season at sixth place with 12 points from 14 matches.

Well, many fans hailed the cricketer after receiving the prestigious award with one fan writing, “Congratulations!! Karnataka is proud of you Champ!”

Another fan wrote on Twitter, “Many congratulations Rahul. Your batting style has been improved immensely. I personally love your batting. Good luck in the future.”
