Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) mentor and head coach Anil Kumble was highly impressed with the two key performers of the franchise for their incredible show in the KXIP’s first win of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
After their heartbreaking defeat against Delhi Capitals in their tournament opener, the KXIP bounced back brilliantly thrashing RCB by 97 runs on the back of captain KL Rahul’s record-breaking batting display and the spinners' applaudable bowling display on Thursday.
Rahul yet again showed his class with the bat, cracking 69-ball 132* runs to help KXIP set up a giant 207-run target and then the bowlers successfully defended the total, as the RCB could manage mere 109 runs in 17 overs to lose the game to the Punjab team.
Apart from Rahul’s fantastic batting display, Ravi Bishnoi also performed brilliantly with the ball, taking three wickets to leave his coach Kumble praising the two stars of the KXIP.
He was really pleased with the result against the RCB led by Virat Kohli and lauded the bowlers and especially the spinners for their superb display in their massive win.
In a video shared by the KXIP on Instagram, Kumble said: “I think the bowlers bowled fantastically. Both the leggies, Murugan Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi, picking up wickets was so special. Ravi Bishnoi has shown over the last couple of matches, the kind of control he has, the confidence he has, the composure that he has as a 19-year-old is great.”
Praising Rahul for his incredible show with the bat, legendary cricketer said playing such wonderful knock on a pitch wasn’t easy, but he made it look easy which was fantastic.
Kumble concluded, “It's wonderful, I think it's really great of Rahul. A fantastic innings that set up the tone of the game. It looked as if he was batting on a different pitch, because it was not that easy to score runs off, but he made it look so easy.”
